Sandstone Cellars Wine Review

Sandstone + TrueHeart Music = Fabulous

by Ross Vick

Sandstone Cellars in Mason, Texas has produced a red meritage that is incredibly good: Sandstone Cellars 2005 II. The thing I enjoy about the Sandstone Cellars wine is that it is extremely easy to drink but is also very complex if you allow the wine to sit on your tongue and think about the different tastes.

The first impression I have when I pour Sandstone Cellars 2005 II into my wine glass is how rich the color is - it's a deep rich red. The legs on the side of the glass are great. Smelling the wine fills your senses with evergreen, earth, and the fruit of the grape. The first thing I notice is the earthy essence. The wine is also very fruit forward. It isn't too hot - there isn't too much alcohol hitting your tongue. I primarily taste the Sangiovese and Syrah at first, but the other grape varietals come into play the longer the wine is allowed to breath. This results in being able to enjoy many different experiences in one bottle of wine, which is indeed rare and makes for an exciting adventure.

Here are the grape varietals the wine has:
Touriga 27%
Mourvedre 23%
Syrah 20%
Barbera 12%
Sangiovese 12%
Primitio 4%
Grenache 1%
Viognier 1%

Be sure to open this wine at least 30 minutes before drinking it so the flavors have time to expand. We recommend tasting this wine with Dubliner cheese, smoked Gouda, olives, pastas, steak or barbeque. I really enjoy drinking this wine while listening to "Angel's Kiss," it makes the wine taste sweeter. However, Taylor Vick, A&R Director for E-Heart Records, enjoys drinking the wine while listening to "Where Are You?" She says both song and wine are bold and passionate, which makes for a perfect coupling.

It’s an easy wine to get excited about. I enjoyed it so much I shared it with my friends in the music business. After all, music isn't the only good thing coming out of Texas! Enjoy!
