The Pentagon and CSPAN

On This 9-11 Anniversary only CSPAN Covers Pentagon Memorial Dedication

by Ross Vick

DALLAS--When our national media outlets cannot take the time out of their regular programming to honor and reflect upon the tragic events of 7 years ago, it is then no wonder that apathy reigns in our national conversation. Thank goodness the Cable Companies agreed to fund CSpan and give us daily input into the workings of our government.

On this day of national rememberance I received an email from a "conservative newsletter" smearing those who don't agree with his narrow and skewed point of view. He insisted that all Americans are just like Governor Palin especially those who: 1. watch their children play sports, 2. grow up in towns the size of the former Mayor's home town, 3. hunt. I responded and leave you with the following:

My Dear Fellow American: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. The conservatives in the country appear to be on a course to insanity.

I too grew up in a small town, as did my family. So called "conservatives" did not reign there. Any more than did the "radical liberals" you so hatefully describe. There was no homogeneous "small town" politics you fantasize about. No one asked what party my family members belonged to as they laid down their lives for their country.

Barack Obama has had 570 days of intense national scrutiny (and John McCain and Joe Biden as well); Governor Palin will get only 57. The questions need to be tougher, the digging deeper and the truth be told.

When the radical right, represented by conservative talk show hosts and internet smear mongers and yes, even Republican Vice Presidential candidates come down off of their sanctimonious high horses, give up their sophomoric name calling and school yard loud mouth bullying, only then will this nation heal.

Let the healing begin.
