Aftermath
Like the rising flood waters, we can't escape the news.
Avoiding the news after catastrophes becomes a necessity. There are different ways to occupy your mind. But they are all short term as we all come back to pondering: what we can do? What if it were us? Did all of the different government agencies, local, state and federal do their best? There will be a theme song of the past week--each one of us will have some song we identify with Katrina. Soon we'll be flooded with the usual “tug at the heart strings make you want to cry and salute the flag” kind of songs. I'm hoping we don't have any more national catastrophes because these "made for disaster" songs get to be nauseating pretty quickly. However, the cashing in on the misery of others is something that the music industry is built: teenage angst, poverty, divorce, murder, cheating and lying are the bedrock upon which most of the music we are washed with daily are built. Not that TrueHeart is immune from the morose subject matter, but for the most part our view is that the glass is half full, rather than half empty. We hope that the folks impacted by Katrina and we all will be sooner or later, will keep the faith and work together to put their lives back together, not as it was, but better than they thought it could be.
