Can't Help Myself

by Ross Vick

Okay, Okay, I admit it. The game was a week ago and I'm still giddy about it. And yes, I paid a ticket agency in Austin a bunch of money for two tickets in the end zone. Would I do it all again? Yep!

Regardless of your sports team affiliation or even if you like sports at all, the drama and pageantry of the 2006 Rose Bowl Game will linger long in the the minds of those who saw it. Everyone I've spoken to about the game has said the same thing: "I was on the edge of my seat the last two minutes of the game!" I tell them to multiply that emotion times 93,000 and that's how nuclear powered the atmosphere of the stadium was the entire game-- and especially the 4th quarter.

So, I'm back at my office, working on chord progressions and trying to write that definitive, career changing, wrench your guts out, make you cry in your car, bonafied boilerplate Nashville hit song. The thing is I can't get my mind off of the game!

Now, if someone were to say to me they had to have a countryfried Nashville song on their CD player by noon tomorrow, I could pull something together. But without the deadline, it's just too darn wonderful to sit in the afterglow of being a Texas fan--I went there but didn't graduate which would come 17 years later at the hands of being shamed into it by my then 4th grade daughter. I finished at SMU. So, for this week, I get to relive being 11 years old again, remembering with great fondness the Arkansas game and the Cotton Bowl of 1969 season and how much fun winning the National Championship is!

But you know, great events don't have to be those held on a national stage. They can be something a bit more subtle, like your spouse reminding you gently that your 23rd Anniversary is this weekend and no plans to celebrate have been made.

Oops. Gotta go Google some exciting Anniversary event. I'll let you know how it goes.

I cant' help myself, I have been a little distracted.

Peace.
