This is a worthwhile site to visit. http://AnySoldier.com
There was a quote on the home page relating that if you do the numbers, with 160,000 troops deployed in harms way in the Middle East the casualty rate is actually higher per 100,000 in Washington D.C., so we may want to consider pulling out of D.C. right away. Go to the website for the un-paraphrased version.
I am interested in this website for a number of reasons, but what got me there today was a meeting I had with my committee members from the Dallas Songwriters Association Songs from the Soul of Service Committee. The DSA is sponsoring a songwriting contest for Active Military Personnel. We need some images to consider for the compilation CD which will result from and be comprised of the category winners of the contest. TrueHeart figures to be significantly involved with the production of the CD and we've already donated towards the production of the CD. We think it is a good thing to support our troops in harms way and this is one small way we can help out.
We have friends in Iraq and assemble packages of items they like to have in the field including: Beef Jerkey, Sunflower Seeds, Wet Wipes, Crystal Light for sports bottles, Slim Jims, Twizzlers, Gum, Books, Newspapers(we pack with sports pages!) magazines, CD's Batteries, Calling Cards, pens, pencils, pads of paper, envelopes, socks (good ones--black) and other packaged candy and snaks that will travel well and not melt in the heat. There is a link on the AnySoldier site that tells you what you can and can't send and gives addresses to soldiers who blog on their website. Our friend is Captain James Geishaker. When you get to the page, you can do an alpha search by last name and check him and his command out.
Do it. You won't regret it!
